Look around you, there are trees, plants, microbes(which
we can't see!), our friends and family. We are a spectacular and beautiful
creation of nature, forged by evolution for millions of years. But what makes
us human (Homo sapiens), so special that we decided the fate of 8.7 million other species on this planet. I think the answer is NOTHING. Many of us
like animals as our pets, there is a special connection. The communication is
not lingual, but one with feelings...
We get to learn so many things from nature itself, one
of them being CARE. As humans we think ourselves to be superior over other
animals because we are no longer part of the landscape, we are the shape of the
landscape. Due to which, we have the freedom to manipulate each and everything
around us on our will. Such thinking leads to some extreme cases, one which can
cross all the limits of selfishness and cruelty.
On such act was conducted in a village of Kerala. Two
lives were taken away from nature cruelly by every means. An innocent female
elephant was fed a pineapple filled with explosives inside it. The explosive was used by the locals to scare away the animals. The elephant ate the
pineapple and was several injured when the crackers burst in her mouth, the
tongue and jaw was injured so severely that the poor animal was forced to starve
to death. The elephant ran through the villages without posing a single threat
to life and property. It was in pain and couldn't eat anything for days.
The nightmare doesn't end here, after investigation it
was found that the elephant was going to be a mother. All this in itself is one
of the many examples that how humans are insistent on their superiority
complex. If this act of horror doesn't open our eyes, I don't know what will.
The poor animal went into a river and put her mouth in the water, to protect the wound from getting infected, but sadly during the process, it took its last breath. The body was rescued and paid a decent homage. The
funeral was conducted on her birthplace. Authority has promised to punish the
guilty for the act of cruelty.
Mr. Surendrakumar said the elephant died at Velliyar
River in Malappuram district on May 27. The post-mortem revealed that the
pachyderm was pregnant. “I have directed the forest officials to nab the
culprit. We will punish him for ‘hunting’ the elephant,” he said.
"When we saw her she was standing in the river, with her
head dipped in the water. She had a sixth sense that she was going to die. She
took the Jalasamadhi in the river in a standing position,” Mr. Krishnan, who
was deputed to bring the elephant back to the shore, wrote.
We are terrified by these extreme inhuman acts. It is now onto us to take a lesson from this and set an example and stop such animal abuse. Instead of humans dominating over other animals we should make peace with them and " LIVE AND LET LIVE".
Let us not forget that what makes us humans is not the
superior gift of reasoning, but the feeling of love and care for others and
that includes everyone! Stay tuned for more such content...
